Welcome everyone :) Things may be a little slow at the moment as I am in my last few months of school so I am swamped with work and exams but if you had time to leave a comment it would make my day!

Fallen by Lauren Kate

Title: Fallen
Author: Lauren Kate
Pages: 452
Release date: December 9th 2009
Publisher: Corgi Childrens
Source: Borrowed

Seventeen-Year-Old Luce is a new student at Sword & Cross, an unwelcoming boarding/reform school in Savannah, Georgia. Luce’s boyfriend died under suspicious circumstances, and now she carries the guilt over his death with her as she navigates the unfriendly halls at Sword & Cross, where every student seems to have an unpleasant—even evil—history.

It’s only when she sees Daniel, a gorgeous fellow student, that Luce feels there’s a reason to be here—though she doesn’t know what it is. And Daniel’s frosty cold demeanor toward her? It’s really a protective device that he’s used again . . . and again. For Daniel is a fallen angel, doomed to fall in love with the same girl every 17 years . . . and watch her die. And Luce is a fellow immortal, cursed to be reincarnated again and again as a mortal girl who has no idea of who she really is.

There was just something about this book for me. It was like magic. I Just wanted to read and read and read. It was filled with mystery and romance and angels. It grabbed me by the hand and wouldn’t let go, even after I finished it. I didn’t want it to end.

Luce was an interesting character. She did, however, have a lot of qualities that I dislike in a protagonist. She was troubled, misunderstood, damaged and indecisive. Despite all this, I liked her. I felt her pain, her frustration. I could empathise with her.

The male characters were again pretty typical. Charming. Swoon worthy. A little bit dangerous. Cam and Daniel kept me on my toes though. I always wanted to know more about them. I kept jumping between the two, never quite knowing how I liked more. I liked that.

The plot wasn’t hugely original. The love triangle was overly appealing. But it had that something that captured my attention. The ending, however, was completely and utterly overwhelming. I was not expecting it at all. I was completely on my toes at the end. And I loved that. That made it original.

The cover was just fabulous. It definitely captured the essence of the book. Haunting with a hint of mystery. The font is gorgeous and I love the little accent below it. The light behind her the girl illuminates her yet is not bright enough to lighten the book. A great reflection of the book.

  12. I definitely had a harder time with Fallen. I really loved the story in general, but Luce's (lack of) character was too annoying for me. Plus, I found her inexplicable attraction to Daniel a bit trite. However, your review makes me want to give it a second chance! :)
