At the moment I am reading The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff and The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson. They are completely different reads, one contemporary, one a paranormal/fantasy type. The reason I chose to read both at once was due to one being a review copy. I had started The Sky Is Everywhere first and then received The Replacement and wanted to read it promptly as the publisher had been so kind to send it to me. I actually really like reading two books at once. It means I can chose which I fancy depending on my mood. Normally if I wasn't in the mood for that book I just wouldn't read but now I can.
I don't know if I will always read more than one book at once. It would depend on the two books, their genres, how long they are, whether I think I will need full focus. I can definitely see the positives though. My only issue would be carrying two books in my bag....
What are your thoughts? Yes or no?
Yes. I always read more than one at a time. When carrying a book with me, I always pick the one I'm more into that day. If one is sounds better to me while I'm out, I'll take it.
ReplyDeleteYeah that seems like a good idea. Now I have to choose which I am going to take to school today... Thanks for the input :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always reading more than one book at a time. At the moment, I'm sort of reading three, as I have gotten bored of one and decided to take a break.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice being able to choose :D
I almost always have more than one book on the go - I picked up the habit at school in Eng Lit where different books were read at the same time but with different teachers plus having to read for French lit class.
ReplyDeleteI think if people can do it, why not? I generally have two books on me at the same time, but I never read two at the same time. I want to get lost in an individual world, rather than try to juggle two at once. Plus, it clouds my reviewing process :)
ReplyDeleteAmber: Yeah, it seems less bad if you just take a break and read something else rather than stop reading completely.
ReplyDeleteMaryom: Yeah, I'm doing English Lit and I'm reading two books at once and it has made it seem less daunting.
melissa: I am finding that it may affect my reviews. I hope it doesn't too much and if it does I may have to give it up.
ReplyDeleteyeah I'm definitely a ONE book-at-a-time kinda person. I read pretty quickly and like to focus on one story at a time!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input :) it seems to work for some people and not for others.
ReplyDeleteI read more than one book all the time. I have one for when I am reading in bed. One for when I am downstairs. And one for when I need a book to take with me for a trip! It works perfectly for me. I like keeping things diverse - if I need a break from a book b/c of writing style or something, I go to another. It keeps me sane and I can read all in a nice amount of time.
ReplyDeleteI usually am a one book kinda girl, but since NetGalley took off their Kindle button I have been reading my galleys on my computer during the day and a "real" book when I can't take my laptop with me (like in bed, it's kind of hard to snuggle up with a laptop haha). As long as they are separate genres I can do it, so I don't get them all mixed up.
ReplyDeleteBookGeek: That is great. I don't think I would ever be able to juggle more than 2
ReplyDeleteJessica: Separate genres is really important for me when reading 2 books at once. If they are too similar I just get confused. Has the kindle button gone for good?
I hope it's not gone for good. Right now they said they are trying to get it back *crosses fingers*. Hopefully they get it back soon.
ReplyDeleteI have tried so hard to read on the computer but I get distracted easily and I need a lot of focus to read a real novel. I really hope it comes back!
ReplyDeleteAlice I read one book after another but have on occasion read two or three at the same time if could not get completely immersed in just one of them... Like you they are separate genre books or they really do blend together quickly!
ReplyDeleteI can read more than one book at a time. I only tend to do it tho if I reading a book on my laptop or my iPad, I like to have an actual book to read if I can't read on them at the moment or I need a break from the story.
ReplyDeleteJackie: I think I will generally stick to one book but under certain circumstances I may read two at once!
ReplyDeleteSimplyMe: With my Kindle I think I would do that because I don't always want to take my kindle out with me (to school for example).
I usually read 2 books at a time, one at home and one I bring with me to school. If I'm really into one though, it gets all my attention! It's just nice to have choice sometimes :P
ReplyDeleteChoice is very nice. I like being able to choose which to read based on my mood :)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a one book at a time kind of girl. I must admit I have trouble enough to remember what last happened in the single book I am reading. I really don't think I would cope with 2!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could though - must be fun!
I don't think it will ever be my comfort zone but sometimes it is nice. My mind won't co-operate sometimes, making it impossible!
ReplyDeleteI really only like reading one at a time. I don't like getting any plots confused. The only exception would be if I was reading a book and listening to an audiobook in my spare time.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried audiobooks. I must try them at some point!
ReplyDeleteI prefer to read one book at a time (I feel a little scattered with more than one), but I do read two sometimes.
ReplyDeleteNow that I'm getting e-galleys, I've been reading them on my computer and then reading a real book when I'm not at home.
I'll also pick up a second book when I'm not completely into the book I'm reading.
Oh, I'll also read two books if one is a scary book. I try not to read scary books right before bed! :P
haha. I wouldn't want to read scary books at night. Thanks for the input :)
ReplyDeleteThat is the same with me. If I am really into a book I won't want to put it down!
