Welcome everyone :) Things may be a little slow at the moment as I am in my last few months of school so I am swamped with work and exams but if you had time to leave a comment it would make my day!

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
Release Date: October 13, 2009
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 391
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

This book has been out for a year now and it has caused a major storm in the blogging world. A lot of you I presume have already read it. I've read raving reviews and I thought I should read it myself. I apologise that it has taken a while to get the review up but as least it is here now.

"For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her...until Patch comes along.
With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel. For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life."
(goodreads)

For starters the cover it gorgeous. I love covers, they make me happy and I will admit that I do judge a book by a cover (I know I know, I need help) but I am trying not to. However, this cover would have been enough for me to buy it, even without the reviews.

I did quite like Nora as a character. I didn't love her but I could sort of understand how she was feeling and why she did was she did. Obviously she does some very silly things, but who wouldn't when they are to with Patch. Patch, I loved. You will either love him or hate him, I think. Definitely a bad boy, with the smouldering looks to match. I thought the characterisation of Patch was wonderful, just the right about of bay boy to keep him mysterious and sexy but a touch of kindness underneath it all to stop you from hating him.

It was a very addicting read. I constantly wanted to know what was happening and there was always something happening. I loved the idea of the fallen angels, I found it to be very interesting, and I had never read a book on angels before, good or bad.

I did however feel that there was something lacking, albeit just a tiny bit. I can't even put my finger on what it was but it wasn't one of the best books I read. I still completely recommend it and it was extremely enjoyable. Just bough Crescendo so I shall be reading it soon and I am so excited to find out what is going to happen!

  1. This cover is gorgeous (and I totally judge books by their covers too!) I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on this one, but I still think I'll check it out at some point. Thanks for your review!

  2. I'm glad I'm not the only one, I feel so bad about it. Yeah I had too but I borrowed it from the library so I wouldn't lose anything by reading it (except my time and perhaps brain cells) but it really was good! You are very welcome :)

  3. I love the cover, also! And like you, I do tend to judge books by their cover (bad habit, I should break it). I also had heard a lot of mixed reviews about Hush, Hush. An old co-worker of mine told me it was horrible and not worth my time. Several months later, I finally read it and fell in love. . . .

  4. A lot of people do tend to judge a book by its cover, but it is so hard when they are so pretty. Yeah it was the same with me, it seems to be a love it or hate it kind of book.

  6. Definitely. The cover is pretty much what sells the book!

I'm one of those who can't stand Patch! You're so right that he polarises readers. I'm afraid I didn't like Nora at all, either. =(

So does the story get better in Crescendo?

  8. I think everyone judges their books by the cover. I know I do. I bought this book on sale at Amazon and I can't wait to read it! There's just one problem...I also bought like...7 other books I'd like to read just as much- if not more- and I don't know what to read first!

  11. -Pretty cover! I need help too; I always tend to pick a book by it's cover. I don't even read the summary until after the fact.:P I need to read this book! It's been out for awhile and there's so much controversy about this book. Hope I can check it out soon! :D
