Welcome everyone :) Things may be a little slow at the moment as I am in my last few months of school so I am swamped with work and exams but if you had time to leave a comment it would make my day!

Read, Review, Recommend (6)

It is time for Read, Review, Recommend again! and that means it is Friday. YAY. I hope you have all had a good week and if not, hopefully this great recommendation will cheer you up! The guest blogger today is Leanna from Daisy Chain Book Reviews. She is going to share her review of Beautiful Malice by Rebecca James.

---------------------------------

The book I've chosen to highlight for my Read, Review, Recommend post is Beautiful Malice by Rebecca James. I read this book last year, and it became an instant favourite of mine. If you haven't already read it, do so now! It's a wonderful psychological thriller of toxic friendships and deep rooted secrets that come back to haunt the characters here.  There was  a lot of hype surrounding this book and it's author, and in my opinion, the book totally lives up to the hype. I often find that when books are very buzzed about, they are a let down for me, but not this one!  This was also the first Aussie YA books I read, and since then I've been wanting to find out about more Aussie YA titles. Recently that's been happening a lot since I found out about some great Australian book blogs.

I also had the opportunity to interview Rebecca James, the author of this book, and she is so very nice and was kind enough to send me an Australian edition of the book. I am a little obsessed with book covers and the Australian cover of this one is my favourite.

Beautiful Malice was marketed as an adult book in America, which is why you might not see it all around the (mostly US YA) blogosphere, but in my opinion, it's suitable for anyone 14+ and also has great crossover appeal.  Along with all the dark stuff here, there's some wonderful romance, and characters you will totally fall in love with.  Oh, apart from the character of Alice. She will creep you out!

Rebecca James second book, Cooper Bartholomew is Dead is released later this year and I cannot wait to read it!

Thanks for having me, Alice!

  5. I love "wonderful psychological thriller of toxic friendships". It sounds so awesomely appropriate for a YA book. Also, I'm a fan of Aussie writers, too, though I only know of these: Jacqueline Mitchard, Catherine Jinks and Isabelle Carmody. Well, and Garth Nix, of course.

  6. Ooh, I haven't heard of this one! But it sounds really neat; thanks for the recommendation! :)
    It's such a bummer when books go over our heads because they're marketed as "adult".

  7. Surprisingly, I haven't gotten around to reading this even though I love my Aussie YA fiction. Now I am going to have to hurry up and get it :)

  8. Rubita: I don't read many books by Australian authors and this looks like a great place to start!

    Lauren M: It really frustrates me too. I feel like I miss out on such great books.

    Nic: It looks like a great pick to add to the collection!

  9. Excellent review :) I can see why this marketed as adult fiction in the US ~ it's got appeal to both teens and adults. I really enjoyed it.

  10. ^ Alice was *so* creepy! I'm not sure of the release date of the new book. Some sites said July 2011, but then I saw Nov 2011 on another site.

    @Nic - can't believe you haven't read this yet! :O

  14. Oh I also loved this book. I can vouch for Leanna's thoughts on the book because I pretty much echo what she has to say about it. And Alice is one creepy, creepy character - not someone you'd want to have as a friend :) Go out and read it, it's certainly one of my favourites of 2010.
